My home-away-from-home is an area in the Plumas National Forest, CA. and location of many a family vacation as I was growing up. My husband and I still frequent the area regularly, and I am still finding new treasures to photograph and paint every time we visit. On this occasion a few years ago, we had just found this waterfall, known as Gray Eagle Creek Waterfall for the first time. I loved the rugged rock formations and old waterwheel that was a part of the scene. The waterfall itself was powerful but as the water ran downstream, the power was diffused into large calm pools, providing an interesting contrast. The warm afternoon light found its way through the dense forest and illuminated the falls and nearby boulders and rocks even underwater, providing a feeling of tranquility as being in nature often does. After 32 years of teaching elementary school, I decided to retire. Just prior to my retirement, I took a few watercolor classes at Shasta College to see if all the "desire" to paint that had been waiting patiently for its turn in my busy life could materialize into something that would represent my best efforts to replicate the beauty I see in the world. I wanted to share it in such a way that people would want to "take the closer look" and further appreciate the world and creation around us.
